The relative scarcity in the numbers of, Mozambique’s casinos is in a sense kind of baffling, in one way or another.
In years before now, the city was a location where lots of South Africans would drop by to be away from the exceptionally restrictive rules on gambling (and, it has to be said, mixing with other races) that they had at home. Hence, you are likely to bank on a picture of an advancing location to cater to that tourist market.
On the other hand, perhaps it isn’t all that much of a surprise. The region is truly the most bankrupt world wide, having gone through a gruesome civil war (followed by shattering floods) from which it is still, very slowly, getting back on its feet. This is liable to make a country less of a travel destination, although there is now a thriving display along a few of the city’s breathtaking beaches.
It is also confirmed that regionally at least, Mozambique’s casinos have had to contend with many others in the freshly liberalized South Africa, which is inclusive of the famous Sun City founded by the Kerzner family corporation.
Here is a list of Casinos in Mozambique:
Maputo: Polana Casino Hotel
There are 78 slot machines as well as video poker games, 5 tables of American roulette, four blackjack tables, as well as one poker table.
Namaacha: Sol Libombos Hotel Casino
There are forty slot machines, American roulette, as well as two tables for poker and punto banco.
It is thought that over time the total tourism industry in Mozambique will thrive efficaciously. While the local languages are, apparently, African, there is as well the fraction of Portuguese from the old colonial power and the current and accelerating awakening of English, both from South Africa and as part of the worldwide phenomenon. The country is very cheap (evidently, as it is really poor) and as above, has some of the most beautiful beaches across the globe, fronting onto the Indian Ocean. Those are the combination of features that make tourism authorities drool, and as the country ascends out of its present slump, it is likely that not only will tourism expand, but that the list of Mozambique’s casinos will grow longer as well.
While the country is not expected to ever reclaim its image as a location for partying South Africans, as there are now other choices closer to home for them to relish in, the development of a long distance tourism business is being set-up. This would be to oblige Europeans hopeful for winter sun, as a retreat from the gloominess of the Northern Hemisphere winter. In addition, clearly, the best prawns (shrimp) over the world come from just offshore, in the Mozambique Channel.
